I was raised in Las Vegas, NV, by my mom and grew up playing sports. I loved them. In middle school and my freshman year in high school I was exceeding many people expectations and even my own, I was really beginning to put my heart into it. That’s when I got introduced to drugs and alcohol.
I maintained good relationships but didn’t build them and utilize them the way I should’ve, so I wasted a lot of time. Lost opportunities to go to college and to even just play sports in high school. Always riding the bench because of my grades. I just wanted to smoke and hang out.
From 2011 to 2017 I was addicted to drugs and denied it by isolating and trying to control my own life. I believed I was fine but in reality, was the total opposite. I wasn’t the uncle, brother, or son that I should’ve been. My mother told me about the Tacoma Rescue mission and the New Life Program and that’s where I was introduced to Nate & Recovery Beyond. I began training and running sober and found an identity that I love.
I began to work with others who were older than me to strengthen them physically and let them know that I was there with them and that I’m no better. It’s never too late is what I like to say. When I start something I want to finish, but even if we don’t, the effort is all that matters. I run, hike, and NOW bike because these are the things that my brothers in Christ love to do and it strengthens our minds and bodies.
I recommend Recovery Beyond to everyone I come across who loves the Lord and supports our guys in Seattle and Tacoma who are trying to better their lives the way I have. I am so grateful for this opportunity and chance to ride with Jose and will never forget this. Thank you. RISE ABOVE!
